Tips in Marble Cleaning

Marble is an alluring stone aesthetically used in the creation of monuments, statues, furniture, floors, walls and many others. Basically, it is a limestone that has been transformed proportionately into a mellow veined substance with an array of patterns and colors after it was merged with natural elements. Marble goes a long way in beautifying your home by giving every room an ambiance of class and sophistication. But alas, this exquisite material is prone to dust and stained so it is important to learn marble cleaning to enjoy their beauty for a long time.

Here are some useful tips1. Clean marbles daily by removing dust and stains quickly using a soft, microfiber cloth and warm water. This is an important procedure to follow every time your marble floor is spilled with food and beverages as orange juice, wine, and coffee. Do not allow this stuff to sit untouched for a period of time after they are spilled.

2. Wipe the marble gently with a soft cloth and a little warm water. Avoid scrubbing as this could abrade the material. Manipulate the cloth over the surface, in a circular motion with a slight extra pressure right on the stained spots.

3. Thoroughly dry the marble without leaving any trace of water on its surface, as this will surely create a stain. It is advisable to use a second piece of soft material for drying the surfaces after they are clean.

4. For deeper cleaning of hard-to-remove stains, use a natural, light soap or marble remover. You can also add a small quantity of warm water to diluted dish soap and with a soft cloth material, clean marble surfaces for dust or other debris that has accumulated on the surface.

5. You can produce a shiny marble finish with a chamois cloth that is made from a soft fabric. It can dry and shine your marble at the same time. This is the mellowest way to shine your marble.

6. To remove stains: spray the area with water. Cover the area with a poultice made of baking soda & water and let it rest for 24-hours. A poultice can also be made by mixing flour and non-abrasive dish soap. With a plastic wrapper, use a slightly damp cloth to wipe away the poultice. If stain remains, you repeat the process.

7. A small amount of hydrogen peroxide in damp cloth placed over the stained area for 24 hours will be an effective stain remover.

8. You can also sprinkle corn starch on a greasy spot and allow it to set for around 20 minutes. Wipe away spot using soft dry cloth.

Although vinegar is a good natural cleaning agent for many surfaces, it should never be used on marbles as the liquid is acidic and causes the marble to corrode. Hydrogen peroxide is an ideal natural cleaner for light colored marble. You can also opt for any commercial polish intended for use on marble. Marble has special properties that can be harmed by certain chemicals.

As a soft stone, marble is prone to stains so you have to learn marble cleaning to protect your investment. Your best option is to clean them by using cleaning products and methods that do not cause any damage. If the task is too much, hire a professional marble cleaner.
